Regents approve changes to instruction schedule

At Wednesday's Board of Regents meeting an interesting change was made to the semester requirements for Georgia colleges and universities.

Before the meeting, semesters were required to be a minimum 15 weeks in length and must be at least 75 days long. The decision made by the Regents axed the day requirement, which seems odd since 15 five-day weeks equals 75 days.

I asked the Regents spokesman if this change could be to free up the possibility for faculty furloughs in the fall. He said that was not the case, but said he did not know why the change was made because he was not in the meeting where it was changed.
